About Housebites

Housebites was created by a team of passionate foodies with busy lives. Not content with the current 'order-in' options - both in terms of quality and service - they decided to come up with a solution. They also happen to be the people behind trend-setting websites like Bebo, Birthday Alarm and SpeedDater. Using their entrepreneurial zest, they've created a service that reinvents the takeaway, allowing customers to order food from top chefs in their neighbourhood and have it delivered to their door.

Can’t cook, won’t cook: Housebites helps Brighton’s bogus Blumenthals pretend they cooked by delivering dirty pans alongside gourmet food

New takeaway service not only delivers high quality food – it can now bring the dirty pans for those looking to impress by faking that they cooked it

Housebites.com, the takeaway service that delivers high quality food has today announced a ‘pretend you cooked’ service for Brightonians wishing to convince their guests that they are culinary geniuses by delivering dirty pans alongside food orders. Cooked and prepared to order by local chefs, Housebites main courses cost around £10 on average, and now for an additional £5, customers can request the pans used to cook their dishes for added credibility. The pans are then collected at a time to suit the customer.

  • The ‘dirty pans’ concept emerged on Twitter and Facebook after requests for the service were received through tweets, comments and email feedback
  • The ‘pretend you cooked’ option will be available when users select their delivery slot and confirm their order
  • Selected postcodes will receive the service during the trial period
  • There is a £2.50 refund for those willing to ‘wash up’ before handing back the pans
  • Housebites has experienced fast-growing demand since its launch late last year, with celebrity customers such as Stephen Fry and Lily Allen tweeting about their orders
  • Housebites allows customers to order high quality food from local, professional chefs and have it delivered to their door

Quotations

Simon Prockter, founder and CEO at Housebites.com commented:

“The idea to provide dirty pans with our dishes actually came from our Brighton customers. On a couple of occasions, customers who were not quite adept in the kitchen got in touch and requested that the pans used to cook the dishes were delivered alongside their meals for ‘authenticity’. We loved the idea, and as we like to please our clients we decided to turn these requests into reality”

Simon Prockter continued:

“We have always relied on customer feedback to drive innovation. Housebites meals are cooked at home, so it makes sense for people to want to show off to family and friends and appear to have the skills to create these dishes in their own kitchens. We really liked the idea and decided to do our bit to help create this authenticity.”

Simon Prockter added:

“Despite the attitude of the takeaway industry built on stodgy pizzas and bad Chinese food, we appreciate that a meal is much more than refueling. A meal can be anything from a hot date to a chance to get the whole family around a table. We want to deliver an experience, not just a meal, and this is just another tiny example of us trying to adapt to the experience desired by our customers.”

“Of course, if people are willing to go the extra mile for authenticity and do the washing up, then we’re willing to reward their commitment to the ruse.”
