Local young people get the chance of a lifetime at Perdiswell Leisure Centre and Worcester Swimming Pool
Perdiswell Leisure Centre and Worcester Swimming Pool, has partnered with Lifetime, the UK’s leading training provider in the fitness and active leisure sector, to offer Apprenticeship programmes to 16-18 year olds in Worcester.
- Perdiswell Leisure Centre and Worcester Swimming Pool have taken on four Leisure Apprentices, giving them the opportunity to get their foot on the career ladder in sport and leisure
- The Apprenticeship will enable the apprentices to develop new skills and knowledge relevant to the workplace whilst being mentored by experienced trainers, as well as receiving a Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Wellbeing Operational Services, alongside a number of other qualifications
- With a growing number of young people deterred by spiralling university costs many are looking for alternative routes into the jobs market
- No experience or previous qualifications are required for the role of Leisure Apprentice, but the apprentices must be able to swim, dive to the bottom of the pool and climb out of the pool unaided in order to be able to excel as a Lifeguard, which forms part of the role

Dave Pugh, Contract Manager at Perdiswell Leisure Centre and Worcester Swimming Pool, commented:
We are very proud to be able to offer four young people the opportunity to work in our centres for the next six months. The Apprenticeships will give them a chance to get a foot on the career ladder, and we are proud to be giving something back to our local community.
