Stamford Leisure Centre gives GP-referral new lease of life
Demonstrating that being active can greatly improve your health, Stamford Leisure Centre has over the past six weeks helped Kelly Hanwell, from Easton On The Hill, lose one and a half stone after joining the GP-referral scheme at the centre.
- Kelly was referred to the scheme as she had struggled with her weight for many years and was suffering with high blood pressure
- The team at the centre created a personalised exercise plan to increase Kelly’s fitness and help her lose weight to improve her health
- Kelly now attends gym sessions at the leisure centre three or four times each week, as well as swimming two or three times during the week
- The GP-referral scheme is available at Stamford Leisure Centre by referral from your doctor, and runs over an initial three-month period with consultation, programme and review

I feel so much better now that I’m going to the gym every week, it has boosted my confidence and energy levels dramatically and it’s fantastic that the weight is dropping off so quickly.
