Oadby and Wigston

Sportivate comes to Oadby and Wigston Swimming Pools

Swimming Pools in Oadby and Wigston are helping to keep teenagers and young adults active this winter with two exciting new courses, which are being delivered locally as part of the Sportivate programme. Starting the first week in December, and just £1 per session, local residents can sign up for the Mums & Toddlers Swim Session, and Ladies Learn to Swim sessions.

  • Sportivate is a £32 million Lottery programme that gives 14–25 year olds access to courses lasting six to eight weeks in a range of sports including those offered at Oadby and Wigston Swimming Pools
  • The courses being offered at the pools include:
  • Mums & Toddlers: (£1 a session / £7 / 8 sessions) This session is specifically aimed at Toddlers (under 5yrs) to develop water confidence and for mothers to socialise. This teacher-led session is very sociable and is a great way for mothers to meet other mothers and for toddlers to experience the fun of water through structured play activities
  • Venue: Oadby Pool / Day: Tuesdays (commencing Tuesday 6th December) / Time: 9.00am-9.45am
  • Venue: Wigston Pool / Day: Thursdays (commencing Thursday 8th December) / Time: 10.00am -10.45am
  • Learn to Swim:  (14–18 years and 19–25 years / £1 a session / £5 /6 sessions) Specifically for the age group, these sessions aim to re-build water confidence, providing both a level of competency and an important lifesaving skill
  • Venue: Oadby Pool / Day: Fridays (commencing Friday 9th December)/ Time: 6.30pm -7.30pm
  • Venue: Wigston Pool /Day: Wednesdays (commencing Wednesday 7th December)/ Time: 10.00am -11.00am
  • The Sportivate programme is part of the Play strand of Sport England’s mass participation legacy programme ‘Places, People Play’, which was launched on 15 November 2010
  • Sportivate will provide a range of attractive and sustainable sporting activities for 14-25 year olds who are not choosing to participate in sport during their own time, or are doing so for a very limited amount of time
  • For further information about the course and book a place contact Oadby Pool on 0116 2710386, Wigston Pool on 0116 2881758

Quotations

Kevin Beales, Contract Manager for Oadby & Wigston, comments:

Sportivate is a great initiative to help get young people engage in a range of activities. We’re looking forward to welcoming local youth residents to take part in the new courses! As an incentive, any participants completing the full block of sessions will receive further discounted offers on following sessions or to join any of our pool programmed activities – including swimming lessons. Places will be limited so book your space early and look out for new sessions including Aqua Zumba in the New Year.
