Ponteland Leisure Centre to host charity Swimarathon for 19th consecutive year.
On the 12th November, the Ponteland Lions will host its annual Swimarathon at the Ponteland Leisure Centre. The event will raise money for a number of different charitable organisations chosen by both the young participating swimmers and the Lions Club itself.
- The Swimarathon will consist of 35 competing teams drawn from local clubs, youth organisations and schools, giving several thousand young swimmers a vigorous and enjoyable day testing their swimming skills
- Each participating team will donate half their sponsorship money to their chosen charity, while the other half will donated by the Ponteland Lions to the RNLI for state-of-the-art life jackets at its Cullercoats lifeboat station
- The event has taken place every autumn over the past 19 years, raising tens of thousands of pounds over the past two decades, and providing vital funding for local, regional, national and international charities

Adam Roberts, Business Manager for Ponteland Leisure Centre, said:
This event has been a great success in the past and we are confident it will be similar story this year. The Ponteland Lions do fantastic work in the community and, as always, we are thrilled to be working alongside them once more in the name of charity. What is particularly fun about the Swimarathon, aside for all the money it raises for brilliant causes, is that it brings together young swimmers from across the region for the day, creating a real sense of community spirit and social buzz.
