Morpeth leisure centre to launch Aquatic Youth Club as part of brand new swimming pool programme for 2012

As part of a brand new swimming pool programme for the New Year, Riverside Leisure Centre in Morpeth has announced details of an Aquatic Youth Club to begin in January. In addition to the Aquatic Youth Club, the new swimming pool programme makes significant alterations to current programmes, including having public swimming available every weekday morning until 9.30am and offering lunchtime swimming everyday between 12 and 1.30pm.

  • The Aquatic Youth Club will begin on the 13th January and aims to get young people between the ages of 8 and 16 years old more involved with recreational water activities such as swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and snorkelling
  • The club will give children the chance to try their hand at these activities through a variety of fun games over the course of 8 weekly sessions
  • There is also scope for special sessions for older participants between the ages of 16 and 24 with the emphasis on water polo, synchronised swimming, fitness swimming and aquafit
  • The adjustments to the morning and lunchtime public swimming are intended to make the pool even more accessible to those who live and work in the area – allowing greater scope for swimming before work or during their lunch hour
  • Other notable changes in the new programme include the Toddler Splash on Mondays at 9.30 am to 11am, the over 50s session on Fridays from 14.30 to 16.00 and the Kids Crazy Swim on weekend mornings at 10.30am

Quotations:

Ian Hamlet, Contract Manager at Riverside Leisure Centre in Morpeth, comments:

We want our leisure centre to provide the best possible service to the members of the local community so we have adjusted the swimming pool programmes to be even more in tune with the needs of local people young and old. The Aquatic Youth Club will offer a brilliant variety of fun games and activities to young people, while the altered public swimming timetable should hopefully allow more locals to take advantage of the facilities in and around their working day. We really hope that the local community will find the changes both positive and helpful.
