Peterlee Leisure Centre looks for further business partnerships after the success of Pepsico Walkers gym initiative
January 11, 2012
Peterlee Leisure Centre is on the lookout for local businesses that want to offer their employees the chance to get fit and healthy in the New Year. The call comes after the success of a corporate gym membership scheme run in conjunction with the Peterlee-based food and drinks manufacturing company Pepsico Walkers. Having launched in November, the special scheme provides company employees with the opportunity to sign up to a subsidised membership at Peterlee Leisure Centre. To date, over 100 employees have already signed up to the initiative.
- The membership package includes unlimited use of the swimming pools, Harper’s gyms, fitness classes, squash courts and health suites.
- The scheme has been subsidised by Peterlee’s Pepsico Walkers factory and can be provided free if an employee uses the facilities at least twice a week.
- This is the latest in a range of health initiatives launched by the company, following on from the provision of occupational health facilities, healthy food options in the canteen, smoking cessation programmes, and health screening.

Malcolm Grinstead, Contract Manager for Peterlee Leisure Centre, comments:
Pepsico Walkers is leading the way in the industry by demonstrating a genuine commitment towards the health of its employees. The scheme not only allows more local workers to get the benefits of our many top quality facilities, but also makes great business sense in terms of reducing sickness absences, improving productivity and creating a healthy, loyal work force. After all, who wouldn’t want to work for a company offering these types of benefits?
